The Role

We are seeking a proactive HR Advisor to join our dedicated team and support all three schools within the Monkton Family. Reporting to the Director of People, you will take the lead in coaching Line Managers on people issues, striving for best practices, and mentoring junior HR team members.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Advisory & Coaching: Advise departmental managers on all people-related matters in line with employment law.
  • Recruitment: Manage the full recruitment lifecycle, from creating job descriptions to onboarding, while working to reduce business costs.
  • Employee Relations: Proactively manage absence levels and long-term sickness cases.
  • Strategy & Projects: Design and implement reward and benefit policies, as well as staff wellbeing programmes.
  • Compliance: Maintain and audit the Single Central Register and ensure all recruitment checks are carried out effectively.
  • Training: Design and deliver training for managers across the school.
     
About You

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a desire to build relationships at every level of the organisation.

 

Qualifications and Skills
  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent Certificate in Personnel Practice.

Minibus driver

Start date: August 2026

We are looking for part-time Minibus Drivers to join our pivotal transport team for our morning and afternoon minibus service. We have multiple roles available to cover different routes.

The Role
  • The Schedule

    Monday to Friday - split shifts (perfect for keeping your days free). Morning pick-ups (6.00am - 8.30am) to get them here bright-eyed and ready, and afternoon drop-offs (5.00pm -7.30pm) to take them home after a busy day of learning. We are open to splitting the roles to mornings or afternoons only and/or part of the week. 

    Saturdays - 6.30am-8am This can be in addition to the week day shifts or as a stand alone contract.
     
  • Routes

    We will be running the following return routes:

    Monkton to All Hallows 
    Monkton to Shepton Mallet 
    Monkton to Keynsham
    Monkton to Warminster
    Monkton to Chippenham
     
  • The Pay 
    Competitive pay at £14.50 per hour, term time only working (33 weeks a year), access to our generous benefits package.

You don’t need direct driving experience, route guidance, support and training will be provided. You just need to:  

  • Hold a clean driving licence with D1 entitlement (essential for our minibuses).

We are looking for a warm, confident, organised and proactive Admissions Assistant to join our friendly and ambitious team on a permanent basis. This role is part-time, Monkton term-time only and specifically focuses on admissions into our Nursery through to Reception. This is a role for someone who loves talking to people, building relationships and helping families make one of the most important decisions of their lives. If you enjoy picking up the phone, following up leads, guiding customers through a journey and making people feel genuinely valued, this could be the perfect role for you.

THE ROLE

You will be the friendly first voice and reassuring constant for UK families exploring Monkton. From their first enquiry through to acceptance and joining, you will:

This is a sales-minded, relationship-driven role; more than an administrative position. You will be actively moving families through the admissions journey, following up after visits, answering questions, inviting them back and making sure Monkton is always front of mind. Guide families through applications

Manage offers and acceptances

  • Ensure data held in the applications database is accurately maintained and updated, including application status and any supporting notes

JUNIOR PERFORMANCE COACH (ROWING)

Salary: £16,400, including onsite accommodation.

The Role

Monkton Combe School is seeking a Junior Performance Coach to join our thriving sports department.

Based out of two boathouses at Dundas and Saltford, Rowing has a glorious history at Monkton, boasting Olympic, World and European Champions, and school teams competing regularly at National regattas. Rowing remains a unique offering at Monkton, from developing from the early stages into a highly technical, fitness based sport that demands fine-tuned teamwork and strong mental resolve. The results speak for themselves. For the past two years we have qualified teams for Henley, and many other boats have achieved regional and national success. We also have a number of pupils who have been selected to compete regionally, nationally and internationally, both whilst still pupils at the School and later on as Old Monktonians.

In the role you will represent Monkton Combe School and support the school’s objective of providing excellent standards of sport throughout all interactions with parents and pupils, providing a friendly and professional manner, while also upholding and applying the Monkton School values and missions statement. You will be joining a hardworking and friendly Sports department, working closely with the Head of Rowing to deliver our rowing programme across the school.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Strategic

  • Supporting the Head of Rowing to develop technical, tactical, psychological and physical skills specific to their sport at Monkton.
  • Working with the Head of Rowing on safety and club compliance within the National governing bodies frameworks for clubs.
  • To support the Head of Rowing in delivering Monkton’s co-curricular aims of breadth, participation and excellence.
  • Use passion, patience and sport specific knowledge to encourage all pupils to develop a lifelong love of sport and capitalise on their potential.
  • To support the maintenance and evolution of the boathouse. Experience of some manual handling, power tool use, basic shell/fitment maintenance, independent rigging appropriate to school age athletes would be highly desirable.
  • To support the Head of Rowing in building strategic relationships with local club/university programmes.

General

  • To support the Head of Rowing in delivering high quality coaching and training across participation and competition groups, in particular taking a lead on the junior age group (Yr9/10) and developing the key foundational skills in rowing that will allow all students to develop physically, race to a competitive level and stay healthy during the demanding training programme in their senior years at school.
  • To be available at weekends and evenings to support coaching, racing and associated transport
  • Support the Head of Rowing to actively promote Monkton Sport using Social Media, Monktonian, Newsletters etc.
  • Provide 1:1 coaching of students outside of their lessons where deemed appropriate by the Head of Rowing. This may include video analysis, personal development plans, strategic planning towards key competitions etc.
  • With support from the Head of Rowing, lead on the yr 9 enrichment activity across the school year. This will include planning a curriculum of introductory skills delivered in a logical order and leading on safety of the sessions following guidance in British Rowings Row Safe document.
    Support the Director of Sport with any cross department initiatives as deemed necessary from time to time.
  • Experience of towing trailers would be desirable, in particular on the continent.
  • A PB2 licence would be desirable. Experience of driving motorboats would be essential.
  • A UKCC level 2 Sliding Seat Rowing Coaching qualification would be highly desirable with a L3 being desirable.
  • Any demonstrable experience of leading a group of rowers in an educational setting including the planning, delivery and review of a training programme and individual performance would be highly desirable.
     

Other

  • To be involved in the wider life of the school through boarding duties, tutoring etc.
    For the right applicant further boarding responsibilities could be offered which may come with accommodation.

Senior Gardener

Full Time | Permanent
Salary: £28,000 per annum
40 hours per week | 52 weeks per year

Monkton is seeking to appoint a Senior Gardener to join our dedicated grounds and gardens team, working across our two school sites on the outskirts of Bath.

This is a key role within the team, combining hands-on horticultural expertise with a leadership remit. You will take a decisive role in the planning, prioritisation and forecasting of future grounds and horticultural work, helping shape the long-term presentation and development of the school’s outdoor spaces.

A core aspect of the role will be leading the design, planning and delivery of seasonal planting schemes and floral displays across beds, tubs and hanging baskets, ensuring the grounds are maintained to an exceptional standard throughout the year.

The successful candidate will bring a strong horticultural background (ideally NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent), alongside pride in high-quality presentation and a proactive, organised approach to grounds management.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain high-quality turf through mowing, aeration, top dressing and overseeding.
  • Operate specialist grounds machinery including mowers, tractors and utility vehicles.
  • Deliver high standards of maintenance across flowerbeds, including planting, pruning, weeding and general upkeep.
  • Lead seasonal planting schemes and floral displays across beds, tubs and hanging baskets.
  • Maintain trees, hedges and green spaces, including use of a wood chipper where required.
  • Maintain paths, ditches, watercourses and general site presentation.
  • Carry out repairs and improvements to hard and soft landscaping features.
  • Install and maintain fencing across the school site.
  • Apply fertilisers and herbicides safely, maintaining accurate records.
  • Contribute to the care and upkeep of the school farm, including working with animals during school holidays.
  • Act as a key member of the team, taking a decisive role in planning, prioritising and forecasting future grounds and horticultural works.

Grounds & Gardens Operative

Full time, permanent

Salary: £26,436.80

Monkton is seeking to appoint a full time Grounds and Gardens Operative to join our dedicated and talented team working across both our school sites based on the outskirts of Bath. The successful candidate will come with a background in Horticulture, desirably holding NVQ2 Amenity Horticulture or NVQ2 Grounds maintenance equivalent, and will have a pride and passion for ensuring the schools beautiful grounds and gardens are maintained and presented to an exceptional standard throughout the year.

We also welcome applications from those without qualifications but who would like to gain their qualification through an apprenticeship. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in Horticulture or Grounds maintenance, who will have the exciting opportunity to carry out personal development and training through an apprenticeship scheme.

 

Key responsibilities
  • General gardening, turf care, grass cutting and similar work which may include heavy lifting.
  • Maintenance and preparation of grass tennis courts, including mowing, marking, rolling, brushing and renovation works.
  • Maintenance of artificial sports surfaces, including brushing, cleaning, infill management and basic repairs.
  • Line marking of grass and artificial sports areas.
  • General sports turf maintenance including mowing, aeration, top dressing and overseeding

  • Installation of fencing around the school site including maintaining existing fencing.
  • Carry out weed spraying, application of fertilisers, chemicals etc, ensuring spray records are maintained and kept up to date.
  • Attend appropriate training courses if required and as agreed with the Grounds and Gardens Manager.
  • Care and maintenance of the small school farm, particularly during the school holidays, including mucking out the enclosure and replenishing hay. The role therefore includes some work around live animals (sheep, goats, alpaca).

Monkton Leisure is seeking an enthusiastic Duty Manager to oversee daily operations across our 25m indoor pool, gym, and dance studio. In this role, you will be the face of our club, providing a warm, welcoming service and engaging with members to foster a positive environment focused on health and wellbeing.

The successful candidate must hold a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) and demonstrate the flexibility to work a varied shift pattern.

Sport Performance Coach (Netball)

Salary: £18,000 per annum (depending on if accommodation is provided) 
Start date: Week commencing 24th August 2026
Hours: Average of 25 hours per week, term-time only

We are seeking a dedicated Sport Performance Coach (Netball) to support our whole-school approach to sports excellence. You will join a hardworking department committed to breadth, participation, and performance. This role will work with the Head of Netball & Tennis to deliver the Netball programme across both the Prep and Senior Age groups, whilst reporting to the Director of Sport and the Head of Prep Sport.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver the Netball programme across both schools, potentially visiting feeder schools like All Hallows.
  • Foster a lifelong love of sport in all pupils.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Head of Netball & Tennis on pupil progress.
  • Work directly with performance teams and sports scholars.
  • Offer 1:1 or small group coaching sessions.
  • To assist with the development of the Netball pathway from Prep years through to the Senior teams.
  • Utilise IT resources and video analysis to monitor and improve performance.

 

Essential Requirements
  • A degree qualification or equivalent.
  • Recognised coaching qualifications.
  • Strong technical knowledge and high-level playing ability.
  • The flexibility to coach pupils aged 8–18 of varying abilities.
  • Competency in IT systems for performance monitoring and video analysis.
  • A clean, valid driving license to move between school sites.
  • Willingness to drive a minibus (training will be provided if not already qualified).

We are looking for Recreation Assistants to work at Monkton Leisure to assist with the day to day operations of the Sports Centre and associated facilities to ensure users have the best possible experience in terms of enjoyment, safety and hygiene.

We are looking for a weekend Chef to join our professional Catering Team at Monkton Combe School. This role will involve preparing meals for our boarding pupils based at Monkton Prep School. At times you will be the only Chef on duty and therefore we are looking for a highly motivated, self-starter who is excited to deliver high-quality meals with the help of our Front of House team.  

This is a term-time only role with the potential to support during the school holidays if you are looking for additional shifts. If you aren’t able to commit to every weekend but are interested in a casual position, please do still reach out.

 

What you’ll do
  • Ensure that all your food is prepared, cooked and presented to the highest possible standards.
  • Ensure that all menus are varied and offer a balanced diet and comply with the School’s Food and Healthy Eating Policy.
  • Ensure all food is prepared with due care and attention, particularly in regard to customers’ special dietary requirements and any allergies that may affect our customers / consumers
  • Pay particular attention to counter presentation throughout meal services and provide a supervisory presence.
  • Ensure all service staff are fully briefed before service commences and to have tasted the dishes on offer.

We are looking for a Food Service/Catering Assistant to help deliver a truly memorable customer experience with our hospitality services at Monkton Combe School ensuring the skillful, smooth and timely delivery of all our food services with support from your colleagues, management team and chefs.

You will be a friendly face during mealtimes at our School and will assist in the food service to the pupils and staff at the school, with specific responsibility for the standard of cleanliness and hygienic operation of the kitchen, dining room and associated areas, including the cleanliness of light and heavy equipment and utensils. You will also need to be alert to any allergens to help keep pupils and staff safe. You will work closely with the Team Leaders and Assistant Managers to ensure all standards are maintained in all areas of our operations.

 

What you’ll do
  • Assist at service times, as directed, in a friendly and helpful manner
  • Maintain the standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout
  • Ensure the efficient clearing of all dirty crockery, cutlery, etc. and maintaining the clearing area to the highest possible standard of cleanliness
  • Ensure tables and condiments are left clean after service and tables are adequately stocked during service times with placemat, salt, pepper, water, etc.
  • Ensure that the dining room and servery floors are left clean after each meal service

The Role

Monkton is looking to appoint a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, who will assist in providing a more effective teaching programme for specific pupils in Monkton Senior School. You will work with the support of the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, the pastoral team, and the school as a whole. The role will be for 18 hours per week, which will be over 3 days.

The post holder is responsible to the Special Needs Co-ordinator. Recent legislation and guidance makes it clear that the roles of teacher and support staff are not interchangeable.  Accountability for the overall learning outcomes rests with the teacher.

Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the formulation and implementation of individual plans as directed by the SENCO in line with school policy
  • To work on individual programmes with the child under the direction and guidance of the and the SENCO
  • To provide the SENCO with detailed feedback on the child’s progress to inform the next stage of planning
  • To assist in the compilation of reports and records in accordance with school policy
  • To participate in school activities and training courses as required

The Role

Monkton is seeking to appoint a dedicated and professional nurse to join our small, hardworking and friendly medical centre team working across the whole school.
The aim of the role is to support pupils’ health and wellbeing so that they can fully participate in school life and provide health care to members of the school community. In both areas, the medical centre team strives to develop and maintain positive and mutually supportive relationships with the wider school community, particularly those at the core of our exceptional pastoral care.
Our nurses work on a shift basis across both sites and therefore a flexible approach to this is essential. Due to the nature of the role, and in keeping with the nature of an Independent Boarding School, hours of work can include evenings and weekends.
