Lower School (Year 1-4) | Monkton Combe

Lower School

Our Lower School classes, for children in Year 1-4 (age 5-9), is an exciting stage of learning.

Alongside embedding core literacy and numeracy skills and continuing PE and Languages provision, the curriculum broadens to include Computing, Art & Design, Humanities, Music & Performing Arts.

Our passionate teachers, supported by skilled teaching assistants, take delight in building strong foundations across many subjects, but also in creating independent and robust learners, through our pioneering Innovate Curriculum.

Innovate starts from rich inspiration and resourcing, but gives the children infinite possible outcomes. So they direct their learning and exploration in areas as diverse as Science, Classics, Archeology, Engineering, Architecture and even Social Anthropology! Taking their learning wherever they are inspired.

The collaborative, listening, problem solving, critical thinking skills they gain, along with their ability to take educational risks, extrapolates across to other subjects and develops robust, engaged and passionate learners.

Innovate Curriculum

Innovate gives each child the freedom to explore, imagine, and express themselves with confidence, whether they are creating green screen journeys to the centre of the earth, building bionic arms from cardboard, or watching a T-Rex walk across the playground!
