Support Monkton

We hope that you have experienced what a remarkable place Monkton is

Our community truly encourages our staff and pupils be known and thrive; failure is celebrated as a learning experience and any child, from whatever background or culture, can flourish here.

We are dedicated to continuing to develop the Monkton experience for all young people, but can only do so through the generous support of our community. Our heartfelt thanks goes to those who regularly support us, or have done previously. Please consider whether you are able to join others in our community giving either a regular or one-off donation to support our ongoing vision.

The Julian Bewick Memorial Fund

Nurturing Potential, Shaping Futures

"I am so pleased that we are able to move forwards together with Bluefriars to create the Julian Bewick Memorial Fund and in so doing secure the future of Monkton rowing and provide all students access to a high class fitness facility. Mr B had a huge impact on my life and is one of the reasons I am now back at Monkton; his rules still inspire the way I teach Maths today. The creation of this fund feels like a fitting way to commemorate all that he has done for so many Old Monktonians and allows future generations to benefit from his legacy. I hope you will feel able to give generously to support this whatever that looks like for you."
- James Goodman, Interim Principal, OM - 1994

This fundraising initiative is designed to honour Julian’s profound impact on our school community and to continue his vision of nurturing individual potential. Julian was remarkable for his unparalleled ability to believe in students, even when they doubted themselves, guiding them to achieve ambitions they never thought possible.

This fund will have two elements, the first will be dedicated to supporting rowing at Monkton, including updating our fleet of boats, improving facilities at Dundas, the acquisition of a state-of-the-art rowing tank and providing access to strength and conditioning for all students.  The second part the fund will provide bursarial support for talented pupils demonstrating excellence in Maths, Computer Science, or Rowing.

Monkton Chaplaincy Centenary Fund

"10 for 10" Giving Initiative

This appeal directly aligns with the Chaplaincy’s “10:10 Vision”. Donors are invited to contribute a denomination of ten (£10, £100, £1,000, etc.) either as a one-off gift or through monthly instalments over ten months. Purpose: To provide flexible, recurring, or substantial support for the general operational needs and specific projects of the Chaplaincy.

Christian Leadership Bursary
Purpose: To provide significant grant support for Sixth Form students who demonstrate a strong commitment to, and active involvement in, the Christian life of the school.

Eligibility: Recipients will be actively engaged in Christian activities and will be integrated into the school’s leadership/scholarship programme. The expectation is that recipients are active in their faith and will play an active role in the life of the school (whether that be through the Christian Union Committee or the senior leadership of the school). They will be intergrated into the School’s Sixth Form form leadership programmes and receive individual mentoring from a member of the chaplaincy team.

Impact: This bursary will attract and support students who will contribute significantly to the spiritual vibrancy and leadership within the school community. Launched in 2021, these provide Sixth Form places for young people who would benefit from the exceptional pastoral and academic support offered at Monkton.

Christian Ministry Bursary
Purpose: To offer financial assistance to children of clergy and missionaries, ensuring they can benefit from the stability of a Monkton education while their families continue to serve the Lord through vital work. Impact: This bursary directly supports families dedicated to ministry, enabling their children to receive a high-quality education at Monkton without compromising the family’s ability to continue the Lord’s work, both in the UK and across the world. To coincide with the Chapel Centenary, this year we are launching a new fund specifically to support families involved in full-time Christian ministry, in the UK or overseas. Whilst many of these families have received bursaries to attend Monkton over the years, this is the first time we will have a specifically allocated fund, and hope this will enable more young people to attend the School.

Enhance Chapel Facilities
Chapel Chair Replacement Purpose: To replace the current Chapel chairs, which are significantly aged and in need of renewal. Impact: New chairs will enhance the comfort, aesthetics, and overall experience for all students, staff, and visitors attending services and events in the Chapel.

Prayer space Purpose: To enhance the chapel’s prayer space, creating a welcoming and peaceful environment that pupils can use throughout the day.

Impact: This quiet, dedicated space will help pupils pause, reflect and find calm amidst the busyness of life, supporting the Chaplaincy’s 10:10 vision by giving them room to consider and live out the “fullness of life” described in John 10:10.

Legacies

A legacy to Monkton is one of the most meaningful and enduring gifts you can give to the School, whilst benefiting future generations of Old Monktonians.

All legacies, whatever their size, will directly benefit the School, its pupils, and teaching staff. Pupils of today, as has been the case for many years, are the beneficiaries of previous generosity, and legacies are a way to ensure that Monkton retains its place as one of the leading Christian boarding schools in the country.

The uncertainty of potential costs can make it difficult to offer a significant gift to Monkton during your lifetime, however, a bequest offers greater flexibility in how your legacy lives on.

Professor Mike Keighley, OM 1962: -

"I cannot take my earthly winnings with me, so I am happy to pledge a gift to my old school."

If you are considering leaving, or have already left a gift to Monkton in your will, please do contact us. We want to ensure we best understand your wishes, and have the opportunity to thank you in your lifetime.

Our brochure below has more information, and a contact form that might be helpful. Please do work with your Solicitor and Tax Adviser, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any ideas or queries.

Thank you for considering giving to Monkton in this way.

Other Appeals

Bursaries
Since our foundation, Monkton has financially supported students who are disadvantaged in some way through our bursary provision. There is a range of support available to help children and young people, and their families, from a variety of circumstances.

Transformational Bursaries
We offer life-changing bursaries designed to help those from the most challenging situations. For example we currently support pupils from war-torn countries and difficult home environments. We work with organisations, such as the Royal Springboard Foundation, in order to identify young people for whom Monkton could make a significant difference and support them throughout their school journey.

Hardship Fund
This is designed to support families who fall on hard times while their child is studying with us, either through providing additional fee support, or through helping provide a holistic experience to pupils through covering the cost of field trips, uniform, and more.

This fund will help support families for whom the addition of VAT on school fees will be a significant challenge, particularly for those children in key GCSE and A Level years, and cover the increase in fees for our current bursary recipients.
