SENIOR ADDITIONAL CHARGES
There are a number of services and opportunities at the Senior School that are available as additional extras above the baseline fee; the amounts below are what parents will pay including VAT where appropriate.
| ADDITIONAL BOARDING NIGHTS |
| Any other boarding nights not included in the fee will be charged at a rate of £99 per night. |
| EXEAT WEEKENDS |
Our Exeat Weekends at the Senior School are voluntary, meaning boarders can opt to remain at School for an additional charge. Exeat Weekend Charge: £175 (2 nights) May 2027 Extended Exeat Weekend Charge: £260 (3 nights) |
| INDIVIDUAL MUSIC & LAMDA LESSONS |
For pupils wanting to hone their performing skills, whether taking up a new instrument, developing already established skills, or delving deeper into dramatics, we have a number of specialist teachers who offer individual lessons at school. Music lessons are 30 or 45 mins. LAMDA lessons are 45 mins. Hourly Lesson Rate: £48 Paired LAMDA lessons are also available. Music and LAMDA lessons are charged in advance. Parents’ contracts for music and LAMDA lessons are directly with the individual teachers rather than the school, therefore we are unable to put this charge on the school bill. We believe this gives our families the best value for money, and allows us to offer a broad range of instruments. If parents wish to stop their music lessons, they should write to both music@monkton.org.uk and the music teacher with at least half a term’s notice.  |
| TENNIS LESSONS & CRICKET COACHING |
In the same way that pupils can access music or LAMDA 1:1 lessons, we also provide 1:1 tennis coaches for pupils who want to pursue this throughout the year, and cricket training in preparation for the Cricket season. Tennis: cost per lesson: £30 This is split between the number of pupils sharing that lesson (1:1, pairs or fours) Cricket: the costs for these sessions vary, depending on the numbers of pupils involved. Information is sent out to parents each year. |
| ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE (EAL) |
Year 9 Termly Charge: £1860 Year 10 - 12 Termly Charge: £1455 Additional sessions 1-1 tuition: £580 Additional sessions group tuition: £490 The EAL charge is for the standard provision in each year group; there may be an additional charge for bespoke 1:1 lessons where necessary to enable access to our mainstream curriculum. |
| LEARNING SUPPORT |
Pupils in need of additional learning support can benefit from one-to-one or small group sessions with our dedicated teaching staff. 1-1 Tuition (per term): £565 Shared Tuition (per term): £385 |
| CHROMEBOOKS |
| All Year 9 pupils joining the School will be required to rent a School Chromebook; pupils from Monkton Prep will continue to use the device they were issued in Year 7 or 8. This device is a hybrid between a laptop and tablet, and will be taken to all lessons and used where appropriate to enhance learning. There will be a charge of £55 per term throughout Years 9 to 11 for this. |
In common with many other independent schools, the fees do not include external examination charges. In the case of boarding pupils, the fee includes laundry (except dry cleaning) and most weekend activities and trips. We endeavour to keep extra charges to a minimum, but where necessary will charge extra costs that are specific to individuals or groups of pupils and which are non-compulsory, for example:
- Certain materials required for practical subjects or hobbies (e.g. Art and DT)
- School publications
- External examination fees
- Hire of musical instruments and cost of music accessories/sheet music
- Outdoor education activities, theatre and other curriculum related trips
- Special activities at the end of Summer Term
- Additional sporting provision: Rowing club subscription, regatta costs, golf membership, sailing, etc.
- CCF camp and lost kit
- Transport and escort charges for dental/medical appointments
