Rowing Senior

The Lent term sees the Rowing races begin in earnest. Well done to our boat crews who achieved some great results in their first outings of the year...

Quintin Head

On 25th of January our 1st Boys VIII took to the river Thames to test themselves against some of the top crews in the county. Quintin Head is a great opportunity for crews to test their speed early in the year, it starts at Chiswick Bridge and finishes downstream at Hammersmith, a daunting course which also hosts the famous Oxford vs Cambridge boat race. Our boys 1st VIII, consisting of James, Izaak, Ed, Alex, Toby, Thomas, Noah and Isaac gave it their all and finished the 4.4km course in 12:01 placing them 19th out of 29. A good result as they were racing against schools such as Shiplake, St Pauls, St Oxfords and other London based Schools. A very promising start to 2024.

Wycliffe Head

On Saturday 3rd February, 31 pupils had the opportunity to race at Wycliffe Head, Monkton’s first whole club event of 2024. Located on the canals near Gloucester the tight 4.5km course lets crews get close and makes for exciting racing. In Division One, Monkton had 3 Boys 8s and a Girls Quad. The Boys 1st VIII, consisting of Isacc, Ethan, Thomas, Toby, Izaak, Alex, Henry and Ed was the first Monkton boat down the course and set a very impressive time coming 4th in their category, beating schools such as Shrewsbury and Abington and only 4 seconds behind Shiplake. Next up was the Boys 2nd VIII who were up against Bristol Cities novice men; they made a great start and overtook their opponents 2km into the race and ended the day with some silverware. Well done to Noah, Jack, Ed, Joe, James, Mo, Ben and Tom. A special mention to the boys in the 3rd VIII who, for most, were competing for the first time. Last but not least was the Girls 1st Quad - Issy at bow steered a great course while Evie, Pene and Jemimia gave it their all and came away with a great victory over Kings School Worcester.

Well done to everyone involved, a great day for Monkton Combe School Boat Club.
