Independent Boarding School of the Year Welcomes New Principal

Monkton has welcomed Bradley Salisbury as its new Principal, marking a moment that feels both forward-looking and deeply rooted in Monkton’s story.
Educated at Monkton before studying at the universities of Leeds and Bristol, Bradley returns with a personal understanding of what makes the school distinctive. That insight is matched by a wealth of experience gained over many years in school leadership. For more than a decade he led Dean Close School in Cheltenham, having previously held leadership roles at Wells and Bristol Cathedral Schools.
Bradley’s appointment comes at a particularly positive moment for Monkton, as the school was named Independent Boarding School of the Year 2025, a recognition that reflects the strength of its ethos, the quality of its education and the dedication of its staff. Bradley’s arrival builds naturally on that success, extending what already feels like an exciting time to be part of the Monkton community.
From his first days in post, Bradley focused on listening and learning. His approach signalled continuity as well as fresh energy: respect for what already works, paired with thoughtful ambition for what lies ahead.
In a fast-changing, information-heavy world, he sees critical thinking, clear communication, creativity and collaboration as essential skills. Just as importantly, he wants pupils to learn how to build strong friendships and take responsibility for the communities they belong to.
He said: “I’ve already seen glimpses of the hardworking culture that understands that school shouldn't necessarily be the best days of your life, but it should be an incredible, fun and informative journey preparing you for them.” He added: “Being in the idyllic countryside just moments from the heart of Bath, this setting is truly hard to beat. I am thrilled to begin my leadership of the Monkton Family of Schools. It is a real privilege to join a community of pupils, parents, alumni, and staff so deeply committed to the authentic education Monkton is known for.”
As Monkton builds on its recent recognition as Independent Boarding School of the Year, Bradley’s return has built excitement. Rooted in experience, guided by values and shaped by a genuine affection for the school and its community, his principalship represents continuity with confidence.
