Cricket

There’s something special about a summer’s day at Monkton - the sound of bat on ball, the buzz of friendly competition and the backdrop of our award-winning Longmead pitch. Cricket here is about performance and shared memories.

We’re proud of a cricketing tradition that stretches back generations, producing players who’ve gone on to play professionally, including Ben Wells most recently. But for everyone, from the beginner to the aspiring England player, Cricket at Monkton is about learning the game, enjoying the game, and being part of something bigger than yourself.

Everyone’s Game

Cricket is open to both boys and girls from Year 9 onwards as part of our Summer Games programme. With two training sessions each week and regular fixtures midweek and on Saturdays, there’s always something to look forward to, whether that’s a local derby or a sun-soaked afternoon at home.

For our boys, there’s great strength in depth, with up to two teams per age group from U14 through to Senior. Every player gets the chance to develop, compete and represent Monkton - from early stage learners to those chasing county caps. Our fixture list includes everything from school block matches to tournaments and tours, giving every pupil a chance to experience cricket at its best.

The Rise of Girls’ Cricket

Girls’ Cricket is one of the most exciting areas of growth at Monkton. With more girls coming up from the Prep School already hooked on the game, the Senior School programme is expanding rapidly.

We focus on giving our players the freedom to explore different formats — from pairs cricket to hardball matches - encouraging confidence, skill and a sense of fun. Mixed sessions are also part of our approach, helping players learn from one another and play without limits. Our girls fixture list is growing and a number of girls play in our senior XI teams.

Trailblazing OMs include Sophie Goodman, cricket double blue for Oxford.
