13+ Academic
Year 9 entry
Academic scholars at Monkton demonstrate strong general academic ability across a range of subjects, and a deep love for learning. All recipients of the academic scholarships are expected to be role models in the academic life of the school, drawing others into academic development through their example and engagement..
Scholars will participate in the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) in Year 10 as one exploration of deeper academic study.
The programme will provide scholars with:
Weekly group session in the Michalemas and Lent Term with talks and activities to provide exposure to a breadth & depth of areas of study that they would not necessarily encounter within the syllabus
Complimentary academic trips (e.g. Oxford University)
Attendance at external lectures/conferences (e.g., Bath Educational Trust Gifted & Talented Conference)
Termly mentoring by a senior leader
Annual report to parents
Expectations:
Be ambassadors for the school's academic culture
participate in the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) in Year 10
Model Monkton values of humility, service, confidence & integrity within the life of the school
PREPARING FOR ASSESSMENT
Application deadline: Friday 15th January 2027
By this date you will submit to Admissions a 90 Second "piece to camera" explaining what you enjoy about academic study, who and what has inspired you, and how you hope to develop as an academic scholar at Monkton.
A reference will be requested from your current school
Scholarship Assessment Day
Assessment date: Wednesday 27th January 2027
The content of exams will mirror that taught in the CE 13+ specifications. If a school has used an alternative specification, papers can be modified to more closely cover content that has been taught in years 7 and 8.
45 minute problem-solving Maths exam
45 minute English exam

Additional 45 minute exam in a subject of the pupil's own choice from those Monkton offer at GCSE
