11+ PERFORMING ARTS
Year 7 entry
Monkton’s Performing Arts scholarships offer a range of exciting opportunities at the prep school. Year 7 scholars will display a high level ability and potential in Music or Drama, alongside a commitment to have a positive impact on the experience of others.
They will be a committed member of school ensembles, and a consistently high-level performer in school concerts and plays. Scholars will also show leadership in the wider performing life of the school.
Scholars will automatically be enrolled onto the Performing Arts Excellence Programme which provides pupils in Years 7 - 8 with bespoke support and development opportunities in Music, Drama and Dance.
The programme will provide scholars with:
- A fully funded trip each year to an engaging venue to broaden their creative horizons
Regular development session supporting their progress in the performing arts
Development time with faculty staff
Access to specific talks and workshops
Masterclasses with professional musicians, composers, actors, dancers
Expectations:
Demonstrate enthusiasm and engagement with performing arts
Encourage others to develop by their example and attitude
Model Monkton values of humility, service, confidence & integrity within the life of the school
PREpARING FOR ASSESSMENT
Application deadline: Friday 6th November 2026
A reference will be sought from your current school
Candidates will have the choice to be assessed in either Music or Drama
Music
Prepare two contrasting pieces of music (further details below)
If you require an accompanist please send a copy of your piano accompaniment or MP3 by 6th November 2026
Drama
- Prepare two contrasting pieces (combined maximum length - 3 minutes)
- If you require any resources you are not able to bring with you please let us know by 6th November 2026
Scholarship Assessment Day
Assessment date: Wednesday 9th December 2026
Music
- Candidates will be required to perform two contrasting pieces of Music on their first study. (Minimum standard grade 3). A second study can also be offered.
- Sight reading task
- Aural Task
- Short composition / improvisation task
- Discussion with Performing Arts teachers
- Interview with Head of Monkton Prep
Drama
- Candidates will be required to perform two contrasting pieces with a combined length of at most 3 minutes
- Short improvisation task
- Discussion with Performing Arts teachers
- Interview with Head of Monkton Prep
