Take a look inside our DT department and you’ll be sure to find some creative minds at work on a range of exciting and innovative projects. Throughout the year, our Monkton Prep pupils have produced some fantastic outcomes along with the help of department lead Mr. Etherington- in particular the Greenpower Racing project which you may have seen showcased at various events across the school.

After a long hiatus due to Covid, Greenpower Racing has finally returned to the school calendar, welcoming in an action-packed Sunday at the beautiful Goodwood circuit in West Sussex. With an all-new team of girls and some brand new modifications to the affectionately named ‘Magpie 2 - Electric Boogaloo’, Monkton’s hand-built eco car finally took to the famous racecourse at the Greenpower Grand Prix.

Each race lasted for 90 minutes, with a required minimum of three driver changes in each race. This gave our team a good chance to settle in a whizz around the course, with Team Captain Bell Parsons heading out first, soon followed by Sophie Rowlands, Mima James and Gabrielle Massonaud.

Nearly 60 kilometres were driven in 90 minutes, dodging and weaving through over a hundred other competitors and their cars. They finished 11th place out of 115 competitors, which places them in an astounding (and well deserved) top 10% of the country!

I cannot tell you how proud I am of this amazing team of young ladies who put so much into the day and drove their hearts out on the track. They showed great respect for the other teams, who commented on and complimented their car throughout the day. The joy in their faces as they leapt out of the car in the pits and cheered each other on around the track proved that they are Monktonians through and through.

Mr. Etherington

Well done to all of the staff and pupils who were involved!
