Mrs Mason, Monkton's Head of INdividual Sport, took on the London Marathon on Sunday 21st April to raise money for one of Monkton's partner charities, The Genesis Trust. Mrs Mason, and our Director of Sport, Mr Miller, share about her marathon journey:

Every year since I can remember I have turned on the TV on an April Sunday to watch the amazing performances of those taking on the incredible challenge of running the London Marathon. It is a day full of wonder at the human body and packed with a wonderful variety of stories that makes the event a special experience for the runners taking part as well as their family, friends and the many others touched by their involvement in some way. This year it was our great pleasure to be able to support Mrs Mason as she took on the challenge.

It has been a life long dream of mine to run the London Marathon. Since watching Paula Radcliffe on TV in the early 2000's, I've always wanted to run at the iconic & inspiring event that showcases the very best of sport & human nature. I just want to say thank you to Monkton & The Genesis Trust for giving me the privilege of running the London marathon to raise money for such a worthwhile charity. Thank you to everyone who supported me with messages, videos & advice in assembly! Hearing the screams, shouts, cheers, singing, chanting, drumming; seeing the endless stream of people lining the streets, seeing all the banners and signs encouraging people on and the causes they were running for - a truly overwhelming and an incomparable experience that I am so proud to have been a part of.

I only had to look around me to see inspirational people, stories & costumes to feel a pang of joy. "How lucky am I to be able to run here?!"

I finished in elation and was absolutely chuffed to beat my previous PB by 20 minutes, to a time of 3hrs 30minutes!

Thank you to everyone who donated, the messages that seemed to endlessly pop up before the race gave me extra energy and motivation as I ran. If you've been thinking about running the event I can only encourage you to take part and run for a charity (Genesis!) next year. Truly a wonderful and memorable experience for me and such a privilege to be able to provide some support for others as I did it.
