This year's Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week took place at our Prep School from 6-12 February. The organisation has over 25 years’ experience working with pupils, families and staff in UK schools advocating for mental health in young people. The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week was ‘Let’s Connect’ and throughout the week our pupils were encouraged to make healthy, rewarding, and meaningful connections with one another.

Mental health matters greatly to Monkton. Throughout the week, across both Senior and Prep School sites, there were workshops, lessons and well-being sessions held which encouraged both students and staff alike on how to think and live in more sustainable ways. From Monday to Thursday our Upper Prep School Library marked the occasion with activities during breaks and lunchtimes to support pupil wellbeing. As well as their usual mindful colouring, board games and fantastic range of supportive books on offer, reflective and interactive sessions took place in the Library which served as a wellbeing hub for the week.

As part of their learning time, Year 3 paused to reflect on the importance of connecting with others and were prompted by questions such as:

Are we making meaningful connections? How do we express ourselves? Do we feel part of a wider community and realise that we play an important role in it?

Pupils also took time to create individual puzzle pieces reflecting on moments in which they felt most connected to others. Take a look at some of their results below, or head over to our social media to take a tour of the activities from the Upper Library.
