This Girl Can? These Girls Did! From a conversation in the minibus about girls’ sport after a hockey match… to an idea to embrace the bravery and commitment of our girls… then wintery practice sessions under floodlight in the snow and rain - all of this led to the toughness of Monkton’s Y7 and Y8 girls shining through in victory at the first attempt at the Sibford 7s last Wednesday.

Monkton thinks differently, and so it was proven as they decided to be the first Independent school in Bath to create a girls’ rugby 7s side this term. Training with the boys, learning new skills, picking up the game for the first time for 10 of the squad of 13, and showing enthusiasm and determination in abundance, the team came together and won all six of their matches at Sibford, in the Cotswolds, to be crowned the 2019 Sibford 7s champions! Indeed, with six of the victorious squad in Y7, and with countless other girls now inspired and enthused to take up the game next season, the future looks bright for girls’ rugby at Monkton Prep School.
