51% of A-level grades at A* or A

81% of A-level grades at A* to B

Pupils at Monkton Combe School have delivered some of the strongest ever results at A-level achieving record beating “A*- A” and “A*-B” grades.

With 51% of grades at A* to A, 81% at A* to B and one in five grades at A*, which is nearly double the percentage of the top grades secured by Monkton pupils three years ago, it is clear that Monkton’s focus on pupil self knowledge has had a significant impact on final exam results.

An impressive 8% of pupils at the school achieved three or more A*s this year and one pupil achieved A* grades in all four of their subjects.

Once again this year Monkton pupils are taking up offers at a huge range of Universities from Cambridge to Central St Martins and Imperial College to Durham, as well as Exeter, Bristol, Birmingham and many more.

Monkton Combe School Principal, Chris Wheeler, said, “I am delighted for these young people that they have taken the next steps to fulfilling their dreams and achieved such outstanding results. We tend to obsess about academic results at this time of year, perhaps because they are easiest to count. Just as important at Monkton is that our pupils also leave the school with proven and tracked higher levels of confidence in themselves and others than many other pupils nationally, that their self awareness is strong and that they offer a diverse range of skills to the world beyond our gates.”

“Monktonians are marked out by who they are, not what they are and these grades only tell a small part of the story, which is why we don’t focus on the national league tables or publish our results in them, despite academic outcomes for our pupils that would likely place us in the top hundred UK schools.”

The school’s focus on individuals means every pupil finds their path, whether in higher education or in the world of business and innovation.

Mr Wheeler added, “Our pastoral approach to education is clearly working, and our focus on the whole child, rather than the outcomes on results’ day remains our priority. We are just as proud of the pupil achieving two B grades amid difficult circumstances, as those who are achieving A*s across the board.”

“As a Trustee of the Palladian Academy Trust it is vital that schools like Monkton continue to play a part in the local school community. We were one of the first in the country to assist with the development of systems such as AS Tracking which helps schools track and engage in proactive pastoral development and want to ensure our learning and experiences are shared to benefit of pupils across Bath and Somerset.”

The next Open Day at the Senior School is on the 15th of September 2018 and at the Prep and Pre-Prep schools on the 6th of October 2018.
