Eddystone House

Boys boarding House

The Sertin Family - Eddystone House

In September 2010, James and Penny Sertin became the houseparents of Eddystone House.  They were actually both boarders at Monkton in the distant 80s, where they met and got together (!) and James is an old Eddystonian. After leaving Monkton, James studied English at Loughborough University before doing a PGCE at Homerton College, Cambridge. He taught in London before working in adventure travel for 10 years and together he and Penny also managed a luxury safari camp in the Masai Mara, Kenya (where Penny grew up).  James teaches English and enjoys virtually all sports (a lifelong fan of Watford FC!).  As well as being mum to their three children, Penny is a specialist teacher and assessor of pupils with specific learning difficulties.  She loves cooking and enjoys the opportunity to bake for the boys regularly!

James and Penny find it a privilege to journey together with the boys through their Monkton experience, and enjoy creating a homely environment and atmosphere in which the boys can grow and mature (and eat cake!) Their aim is to help the boys work hard, be ambitious and develop a caring sense of service and community.
