spanish flagSpanish is spoken by about 350 million people worldwide as a first language, with a further 70 million speaking it as a second language.

Students will learn the necessary skills to communicate in Spanish in spoken word and written form and develop an understanding of the grammar of the language. We follow the AQA GCSE syllabus and the course is assessed through controlled assessments in the speaking and writing skills and final exams in the reading and listening skills. In Year 11 pupils have the opportunity to spend a week with a Spanish family to share their customs and culture and put into practice what has been learnt in the classroom.

A level

Students should have a grade B at GCSE or above. They will gain an insight into the Spanish language and culture and acquire skills and understanding for practical use. At AS topics include the media, popular culture, healthy living and family relationships and at A2 students move on to study the environment, the multi-cultural society, contemporary issues and culture. Students are expected to take an active part in their learning, preparing presentations, essays and reading about the topics studied in class.
