Geography

Understanding the complex relationships between physical and human environments

Year 9
In Year 9, the curriculum is designed to build on the student's study of Geography before arriving at Monkton Senior School. We also aim to prepare them for the rigours of life at GCSE and beyond.The Year 9 students study a range of units including: Antarctica and Fragile Environments, Conflict, and the Living world.

In year 10 and 11 the students study the AQA Syllabus

Three written papers:
a) Physical Geography (90 mins)
b) Human Geography (90 mins)
c) Skills and Decision-Making Exercise (75mins)
Topics covered include: The Changing economic world, hazardous environments, Uk landscapes and resource management.

A level:CIE international A level.
        This is still modular so students sit Four written papers – 2 at the end of year 12 and 2 at the end of year 13.
        In year 12 students cover 6 topics:
        The Physical Environment: (Atmosphere and Weather, Rocks and Weathering and Hydrology)
        The Human Environment (Population, Migration and settlement dynamics)
        In Year 13 the students cover 4 topics: Coastal environments and Hazards and environmental management and Global interdependence.

There a wide variety of field trips offered to all year groups from Longleat safari park to Paris.
