Welcoming a rich diversity of cultural backgrounds
Monkton Prep has always welcomed international pupils and there is no
doubt that the school benefits from a rich diversity of cultural
backgrounds. Pupils from many different countries including Japan,
Korea, Russia and Spain are an important part of the boarding family
here at the Prep.
Our overseas students are made very welcome by the Headmaster and his wife together with a dedicated team of teachers, houseparents, tutors and matrons. In those first few weeks, it is this team that are there to help make the transition from home to boarding life in a new country as smooth as possible.
Soo Ji, a past pupil, recently met with our Headmaster during a recruitment trip to Seoul and was reminiscing about life as an international student at Monkton.
“It was a definitely an advantage to come as young as I did as the language was so much easier to learn. I was just 7 years old when I arrived and I didn’t question the idea at all. I do remember being sad at times but not traumatised by the changes, partly due to my young age and partly due to my houseparents being on hand to provide hot chocolate and a hug 24 hours a day, something I now realise was immensely important! I would have no hesitation in sending my children to board in the UK.”
