Science is the third core subject alongside English and Maths and is taught to every pupil in the school. We endeavour to build on natural curiosity about the world around us and children are encouraged to think in a scientific manner by making hypotheses, testing, drawing conclusions, communicating findings and evaluating their claims.
The subject is taught by class teachers in Years 3 and 4, and by specialist science teachers from Years 5-8. The department follows National Curriculum programmes of study. However, in Year 6, the pupils begin the Common Entrance syllabus which aims to cover most of the Key Stage 3 scheme by the end of Year 8. During their final year, pupils are prepared to take the Common Entrance or Scholarships examinations.
