Encouraging a love of literature
Our English Department seeks to promote intellectual curiosity and a love of literature and reading. It also encourages a critical awareness of non-literary texts and the media, and helps to promote the practice of reflection.
Up to the end of Year 6 (11 year olds), the National Curriculum is used with internal assessments in May. Children are taught grammar, spelling, drafting, proof-reading, poetry writing and presentation of work. ICT is used to complement the work done in the classroom.
The LeRoy Library plays a vital part in the development of English across the School and regular events, such as Book Week, theatre visits, the annual Verse Speaking competition and visiting authors all enrich the English provision.
