Senior School pupils with some of the shoe boxes collected
The pupils at Monkton have been busy filling and wrapping boxes, nearly 400 in fact, for their contribution to this year's Operation Christmas Child, ran by the Samaritan's Purse. These boxes will now be distributed to children all over the world including those in refugee camps where children have left their homes due to conflict in their own countries.
Prep and the Senior School pupils have all got involved in building the wall of boxes around our receptionist! The boxes have been filled for either a boy or a girl and contain items suitable for children aged 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14. There we so many that the Samaritans arranged to come and collect from each of the Schools.
Throughout 2016 refugee children have been a hot topic in the news and Monkton pupils wanted to share the joy and happiness a simple gift at Christmas can have with those less fortunate than themselves. Boxes were filled with items such as pens, pencils, small toys and games and even toothpaste and combs and the pupils are looking forward to finding out where their boxes end up.
