Hockey success for U11s
Tuesday, 30 January 2018
Monkton Prep School is once again celebrating success in sport, with their U11 Boys’ Hockey team having qualified for the IAPS National Finals for the second time in three seasons, thanks to a superb performance at the recent West Regional Finals at King’s Bruton.
The U11 squad, comprised of ten boys from Year Six, demonstrated remarkable determination, team spirit and belief to win not one, but two penalty shootouts on their way to 3rd place in the region and a coveted spot at the National Finals in Tonbridge in March.
Their coach, Jonny Goode, beamed, “I am so proud of the whole squad, as they never gave up, whatever the challenge, and totally deserve this success. With two months to go until the Nationals, we have lots of opportunity to improve further, and some amazingly committed players, so who knows what they might achieve in March?!”
Director of Sport, Benjamin Sim, added “The attitude of the boys was impeccable all day long and I was not surprised that, as the final penalty was slotted by Luke Sertin to win the game and send us to the National Finals, all the boys immediately turned to their opponents to offer condolences and shake hands. They totally embodied what we try to achieve here at Monkton through sport and I couldn’t be happier for them.”
