Five out of Five gain Oxbridge offers
Tuesday, 19 January 2016
Monkton is celebrating this week with the news that all five of our students who applied for Oxford and Cambridge Universities have been offered places. This is an exceptional achievement for the pupils and staff who all work tirelessly to get the very best out of our students. These prestigious universities are as competitive and oversubscribed as ever and there are no back doors or easy ways in for these places. For a small school like Monkton with a Sixth form of only 154, with 76 of those in its current Year 13, this is a very high strike rate and the pupils are to be congratulated on their achievement.
So very many congratulations to:
Jo Male - Earth Sciences - St Edmund Hall, Oxford
Hudson Hovil - Chemistry - St Edmund Hall, Oxford
Pip Harrison - Engineering - St Peter's, Oxford
Lily Bayntun Coward - Classics - St John's, Cambridge
Sam Watt - Maths - St John's, Cambridge
Principal Chris Wheeler commented: "Monkton can be very clear about its self image - we are a school where every pupil is inspired to be the very best they can be at every level of ability and in every area. As an incoming Principal, I couldn't be more proud of the school and the staff I am lucky enough to have been asked to lead".
No doubt we will be hearing about their future ventures as they move on from Monkton. We wish all our pupils sitting public exams in the summer the very best of luck!
