Monkton Choirs Live on BBC Radio Bristol
Wednesday, 14 December 2016
The last day of Michaelmas term started with an exciting visit to Monkton from the BBC Bristol news van!
The lovely Jennie joined us to do a live link into the Emma Britton breakfast show. Two of our choirs performed, first was the #ChoirWhoCan’tSing.
After wheeling Roger (the piano) outside – to be able to link up to the radio satellite, we were ready for our first live performance.
Jennie started with interviewing Mr Bevan and a couple of the members of the choir, Henry and Seth, about why they joined and what they get out of the choir.
Made up of about 30 Monkton boys who either said they couldn’t sing, or didn’t believe they could sing, when they joined the choir, the boys did a fantastic performance of the classic Christmas song Winter Wonderland, very fitting given the wintery setting of the Midford Valley.
Following the boys was the Monkton Chamber Choir, who warmed up inside before also braving the cold to perform Philip Stopford’s A Christmas Blessing. Iona and Alex spoke live on air about their experience in the choir and their performance this afternoon in Bath Abbey. The choir then sang to the audience of Bristol and Bath. What a fantastic warm up for their performance later today in Bath Abbey.
We hope these performances helped those driving to work on this December morning feel just a little more Christmassy.
If you missed the live performance, you have 30 days to listen again on the BBC Radio Bristol website. You will find the first interview at 1 hour 25 minutes 45" and the second interview at 2 hours 23 minutes 18". http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04h586w
Now just time for a few lessons before our whole School carol concert at Bath Abbey this afternoon. What a way to end a term!
