Where swimming is fun and enjoyable!
Welcome to the Monkton Swim School 'Learn to Swim’ programme, run in accordance with the Amateur Swimming Association’s (ASA) National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) for children and adults and the Swimming Teachers Associations (STA) International Learn to Swim Programme. (ILSP)
The NPTS and the ILSP is an ‘all-inclusive’ programme which takes young swimmers from their first splash right through to developing confidence and competence to become competition standard swimmers.
At Monkton Swim School, we understand that swimming must be fun and enjoyable. That is why our entire lesson programme is built around the term FUNdamentals. To ensure that we fulfil this goal, children will be encouraged to take part in a wide range of additional games and skill sessions within their normal swimming lessons.
These sessions may include water safety, lifesaving, water polo, synchronised swimming, diving and competition skills. These skills when put together result in a competent, confident and safe swimmer who has the skill base to participate in a wider range of water based sports.
All our instructors are ASA or STA qualified and all hold a lifesaving qualification. We also have our own Tutor who delivers ongoing training and assessments for all instructors. All our instructors are DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) criminal records bureau) checked.
How the lessons run
Our Swim School Lessons run in line with the school terms and run over a 12 week block. Classes run between 30 minutes and 1 hour, depending on the stage of the class.
All children are assessed on the NPTS and ILSP criteria and feedback is given at the end of the 12 week course. If your child has passed the stage they will be awarded a badge and moved up into the next stage. The cost of the badge and certificate are built into the cost of the course.
Intensive Holiday Lesson
Over the holidays Monkton Swim School runs a number of intensive lessons. These classes will depend on the length of the holidays. The classes will cover different stages of the NPTS but will also include activities such as Introduction to Diving, Water Polo, Lifesaving and Stroke Techniques classes.
If you wish to have more information on the Intensive Holiday Lessons for next school holiday, then please call the Sports Club on 01225 833363
Private Swimming Tuition
Do you think your child would benefit from private lessons with a Swimming Teacher?
At Monkton Swim School we believe we can help. We understand that not all children work well in a group environment. As a result of this we have developed a 1-to-1 and 1-to-2 swimming programme. These lessons are built to meet you and your child’s requirements and can be used to build water confidence, work on stroke technique or stamina or just to give them that extra push to pass and move onto the next Stage of the Swim School Programme.
With a number of teachers who actively teach 1-to-1 and 1-to-2, we are sure that we will find a teacher to match your requirements. We will ensure that you get the best possible results out of your private lesson.
You will find a copy of our private lesson booking form and the terms and conditions in our useful downloads section.
If you are looking at getting into the water for the first time or want to look at improving your stroke technique, we can help. At Monkton Swim School we understand that you are never too old to learn something new and we will endeavour to help you reach your goal.
Adult Swimming lessons are run on a 1-to-1 and 1-to-2 basis.
