Eddystone House - Boys

Eddystone HouseAndy and Sarah Robinson are Houseparents of Eddystone.

Andy is originally from Suffolk and is a lifelong supporter of Ipswich Town Football Club. He teaches Chemistry and arrived at Monkton in 2018 having spent the years since graduating from Sheffield either teaching Chemistry or working pastorally with young people. He enjoys playing sport and loves having the opportunity to do that with the boys in Eddystone.

Sarah is from Edinburgh and enjoys all things creative. She is a Theology graduate who worked pastorally with students and as a freelance graphic designer before taking time to care for their four children Phoebe, Toal, Beata and Harris. They met in Scotland and moved to Monkton with a desire to serve together in a boarding house. They are passionate about making Eddy feel like home for the boys; a place where we can be open, have fun and push one another on as we live, learn and play together as a community.

What 3 things would you recommend boys should bring with them to get the most out of their time in Eddystone house?

The willingness to commit to something bigger than themselves, a desire to learn and grow and a sense of fun and humour.

What is the funniest thing a student has said to you?

Numerous!  One of the perks of the job is how much and how frequently you laugh.  Teenage boys are hilarious and have signed off phone calls with ‘Love you, bye!’.  I have also been called ‘mum’, ‘dad’ and, memorably, ‘Gavin!’  We have a tradition in Eddy called ‘Apology of the Week’ where we nominate each other for doing the stupidest thing that week.  It never fails to entertain and Eddy boys are renowned for being able to laugh at themselves in a healthy way.

What is the unofficial motto of Eddystone house?

Unity in Diversity
