Senior Rugby Sevens

Our U18 and U16 boys teams took part in the annual Rosslyn Park National Sevens tournament in the last week of Lent term. The U18s were up first, managing to win all 3 group matches before taking on Bradford Grammar School in the elimination game at the end of Day 1.

After a slow start, Bradford Grammar took an early 12-0 lead, but momentum shifted Monkton's way on the stroke of half time as a well-taken try meant the scoreline was 12-7 to our opposition at the break. With the game in the balance, our boys handled the pressure moments in the second half incredibly well and scored three outstanding tries to seal the win and send us through to Finals Day!

An outstanding achievement for this group, with Monkton placing in the top 28 out of 224 schools in the Vase competition this year.

Day 2 was a fantastic experience for the boys, playing against the eventual winners of the tournament, Rugby School, in our first match before taking on Marlborough College in our second game. The boys ended the day on a high with a fantastic performance, which was live streamed, against Haberdashers' Monmouth School finishing 27-12 to Monkton.

On the Wednesday of the tournament, our U16 team took to the fields of Rosslyn Park in a tough group including Hurstpierpoint, RGS Worcester and Eton. The boys showed incredible growth throughout the day and played sevens in the true spirit of the game, moving the ball to space and keeping the ball in hand. The team scored some fantastic tries and the coaches have enjoyed watching the team build and bond with every game.

From strength to strength, the future of Monkton Rugby is looking bright!
