Clubs/Aftercare
After School Care is available for children in Kindergarten, Reception and Years 1 and 2 until 5.30pm. Children are cared for in a small group and they are able to take part in a variety of activities both indoor and outdoor. Tea is provided for those staying beyond 4.30pm.
Clubs
There are a variety of clubs for children in Years 1 and 2. These take place after school and include:
Public Speaking Club (ESB)
This club runs for two terms only and will give pupils the opportunity to build their confidence to speak in public. The English Speaking Board syllabus will be used and pupils will be taught to prepare a talk for listeners, speak by heart a poem, read a practised passage from a book and listen and respond to simple questions. Pupils will take the Junior Introductory Examination at the end of the Lent Term which will assessed by an external examiner from the English Speaking Board.
Please note that pupils will need some parental support at home. A small charge will be made for the examination fee and will be added to the school bill. The club will be run by the Head, Mrs Morrell who has had previous experience of tutoring pupils for the ESB examination.
Performing Arts Club
This club runs for three terms and pupils will be taught to sing, dance and act by a professional performer. They will have the opportunity to take part in productions throughout the year and demonstrate their performing arts skills
There is a charge made for this club which will be added to the school bill.
The club is run by Mrs Tracy King who is the proprietor of the Tracy King Theatre Schools in Bath and Trowbridge.
Music Makers /Violin Club
This club will run for three terms and pupils will explore the language of music through rhythm work and tonic sol-fah as well as part -singing during the first term.
In the second term pupils will be introduced to basic string playing skills and each child will be able to borrow a violin to take home. During the third term they will progress further with violin playing, dividing into parts and learning basic ensemble skills. This term will culminate with a performance to parents. There is a charge made for this club which will be added to the school bill. Please note that a charge will be made if an instrument is broken or damaged.
The club is run by Mrs Rosanne Gabe who teaches violin at the Prep School.
Recorder Club
This club will run for three terms and gives pupils the opportunity to learn the descant recorder which is an ideal first instrument for young children. Teaching is done from the stave and not from the letter names. Parental support during practice is essential.
There is no charge for tuition but a charge for the instrument and music will be added to the school bill.
The club is run by Mrs Parker, Deputy Head.
Football Club
This club runs for three terms and will teach the pupils the basic rules and skills of football.
The club will be led by a coach from World Sport Ministries. www.worldsportministries.com
There is a small charge made for this club.
Choir
Choir runs for three terms. It is held in chapel for half an hour each Wednesday lunchtime and led by Mrs Jo Hay and Mrs Nicola Parker.
Mandarin
Mandarin Club runs for three terms and will give the pupils the opportunity to learn the language Mandarin in a fun and exciting way.
There is a charge made for this club which will be added to the school bill.
The club is run by Mrs Suzie Yuan, a peripatetic Mandarin teacher.
