Start date: September 2026
Full-time, Maternity Cover (up to 1 year)
Monkton Combe School is seeking an inspiring, strategic, and high-energy Head of PE to lead our PE department from September 2026 for up to 1 year as maternity cover. Nestled in the beautiful Midford Valley, Monkton isn’t just about winning trophies (though we do like those); it’s about fostering a lifelong love for movement, resilience, and wellbeing in every pupil.
The successful candidate should also be confident in coaching Hockey and Netball, the major sports that you will be required to lead junior and senior teams in. PE teachers are fully involved in the coaching of the games programme.
You would be one of two full-time teachers in the department and would have a real opportunity to get to know the pupils and establish good relationships. Experience of teaching A-level Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics and A level NEA would be beneficial, but not essential. We are passionate about making Physical Education applied and relevant to current sporting affairs, bringing the subject to life beyond the classroom, and knowing this is important in stretching our students interests, opinions and perceptions. The continuously changing landscape of sport should be integral in your teaching and development of student knowledge.
For full details please see the Candidate Information Pack.
Safeguarding
Monkton Combe School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and Disclosure and Barring Service.
